Ford Mustang Mach-e
Review
This is a Mustang like you've never seen before. Bucking the tradition of muscular two-doors, the all-new Ford Mustang Mach-E is a four-door electric crossover. But this isn't meant to be the tree-hugger's Mustang—the Mach-E emphasizes performance and technology. Still, it should achieve good electric driving range and provide an exciting way to live a fuel-free lifestyle. It's a radical re-imagining of the classic Mustang, and a glimpse at Ford's electric future.
Performance and Range
The base-model standard range rear-drive Select model should accelerate from 0-60 mph in just above six seconds and travel 450 Kms (with 75 kWh battery) on a charge.
Opting for all-wheel drive reduces 0-100 acceleration to the mid-fives, as well as range to about 420 Kms. These models have 75.7 kWh battery packs that accept up to 115 kW on a DC fast charger. Power output should be around 269 PS and 430 Nm of torque.Ford says extended-range Premium models will accelerate similarly to their standard range counterparts, but increase driving potential to about 610 Kms for rear-drive and 540 Kms for all-wheel drive variants. Extended range Mach-Es have a 98.8 kWh battery receiving up to 150 kW on a DC fast charger.
The top-end GT model prioritizes performance. Its 0-100 kph acceleration should measure well below four seconds, but range on a full charge will be somewhere around 378 Kms. The Mach-E GT also has a 98.8 kWh battery and 150 kW DC fast charging capability, although in this tune is good for about 487 PS and 860 Nm of torque.
Safety
The Mustang Mach-E has front and knee airbags for both front passengers, as well as side curtain airbags for both rows. Driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane centering, automatic evasive steering, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic reverse braking, and automatic high beams.
Utility
Behind the second row, the Mustang Mach-E offers 402 liters of cargo volume. With the second row folded, there's 1420 liters available up to the front row. The absence of an engine allows for a frunk under the hood, which provides an additional 136 liters of capacity. The Mustang Mach-E has seating for five passengers. Front row occupants get 105.9 centimeters of legroom, while those behind have 96.8. Headroom measures 98.8 centimeters in front, and 97.3 centimeters out back, with the standard roof. Opting for the available glass roof increases headroom to 102.9 and 99.6 centimeters, respectively.
Technology
With a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and 15.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, technology is at the forefront of the Mustang Mach-E. All models come with the latest version of Ford's Sync infotainment software, a wireless phone charging pad, and phone as a key capability. Navigation is standard across the lineup, and includes functionality to help drivers manage driving range and find convenient charging stations. Higher-end models will receive a 10-speaker premium audio system.
